Jahanara Alam Biography
Website Controversy
We initially had a link to a website for Jahanara at jahanaraalam.com however it is no longer online. As this was the greatest site we have seen to date for a Bangladeshi sports person we were intrigued as to what happened to it.
In early 2022, Jahanara had posted a video on Facebook showing herself working out. It was an innocent video however some people took offense and her page was flooded with negative and insulting comments. Weeks later, Jahanara posted a statement defending herself, however it is unclear what she was defending herself from as there was no reference to the earlier video or any incident involving her cricket performance.
With the smell of controversy in the air, we decided to use our extensive resources to investigate why her site was taken down and the situation was not what we expected. We came to learn that her site had been designed and paid for by an Australian supporter of the Bangladesh cricket team. As mentioned earlier, this was a very good website and it was obvious a lot of effort was invested in it.
Why was an Australian funding a website for an opposition team? Those that know history will know that Australia and Bangladesh have very close ties that were forged in Bangladesh’s independence war. During Bangladesh’s fight for independence, besides India, Australia was their staunchest supporter and those ties continue today, even to the sport of cricket. As an Indian, it hurts to admit this but Australia is the most successful cricketing country in the world. In recent times that expertise has been lent to Bangladesh in order to develop their women’s team.
So why was the website taken down? An Australian entrepreneur who is well known within the IT industry developed the site for Jahanara, we know that for sure. Why he took it down is less clear. It’s rumored that Jahanara disrespected him on Facebook which lead him to promptly take the site down. As he is a well known figure, we reached out to him but he declined to make any comment other than to say he “wishes the Bangladesh team the best of luck in the upcoming world cup.”
As Jahanara appears to be becoming a bit of a controversial figure within the Bangladesh cricket team, we believe there is more to this story and will endeavor to find out. This page will be updated as soon as more details are discovered.
